severe dehydration for unknown cause, splenomegaly

In May of this year I became very ill and was taken to the emergency room where I was diagnosed with severe dehydration.  How can this possibly be when I am eating and drinking normally as I do every day?  I am 56 years old with no real medical concerns, except metabolic syndrome.  Last week (Nov) I went to the doctor to complain of intermittent right back pain, sometimes quite severe, but never laqsting long. Blood tests are normal, abdominal ultrasound shows nothing significant except an enlarged spleen.   Should I be concerned?  Could the dehydration somehow be related to the enlarged spleen?  What could be causing the pain?  My kidneys are fine.  Comments welcomed!  ~mikki
