Amiodarone interaction with Mefloquine or Larium

by Walter-Muelken, Mar 30, 1999 12:00AM

I take amiodarone 300mg daily to control atrial fibrillation.  We're going to Africa and I will have to take a malaria prophylaxis.  As it is a chloroquine resistant area I will have to take Mefloquine or Lariam.  Are they compatible with amiodarone?  If not any suggestions for prophylaxis for malaria that don't contraindicate with cordarone?
  Thanks,        Walter

Dear Walter
I am not personally aware of any reported interaction with amiodarone and mefloquine. However, I have not prescribed that combination myself. Check with the doctor that prescribed the mefloquine.
I hope this has been useful. I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to write back.
