Corneal Errosion

Corneal Errosion

I am a 49 year old female. I have had hazing for approximately 10 years. Optomotrist has been working with me for past 6 years to eliminate problem.  She said I have severe case of corneal errosion.  After trying dozens of medicines and treatments, she sent me to lazer surgeon to remove the top layer of eye in hopes of stopping the errosion. The surgeon had to remove so much that nerves were exposed.  Had traumatic recovery.  Eye was severly swollen; therefore, contact lens placed in eye after surgey had to be removed.  Still have problems with this, so surgery was not considered a complete success. (Only did surgery on one eye, because they didn't want me to be completely without the use of both eyes at the same time.)  Some days I have double and triple vision (both horizontally and vertically) and also sharp pains in eyes.  Very hard to work, as I am an Admin. Assistant and on computer much of the day. Optometrist advises that I use eye drops constantly during the day and use Muro 128 each night. The Muro is my only salvation.  Is there any hope for my condition?  Are there any other treatments?  I guess my real question would be...is there a cure or successful treatment for corneal errosion? I must work, but my profession seems to be the downfall (computer work worsens my eye condition)and its too late in my life to change professions.  Any input would be greatly appreciated.

This is a bit removed from my area of expertise (cardiology). Corneal erosions can be difficult to treat, but there are new treatments. You can call our Eye Institute and set up an appointment with an opthalmologist.
