Hypothyrodism and PVC's

by Barbara__0__0, Apr 06, 1999 12:00AM

I don't know which it is; so I'll give you the symptoms in hopes that you'll recognize
  some of them!
  It starts about a week before my period with what I've come to call the "butterflies";
of course, I'm not hooked up to a monitor so I can't tell whether PVC's or
not, within about fifteen minutes I  have a dull headache-neither of these
last very long and then I'm fine.  As the week progresses, it begins to happen
more often and I get what I can only term Hot Flashes (I'm only 36).
I have found that two things help on occasion:  Eating (?) and taking some Tums (I use
these for the calcium benefit anyway).  Sometimes I get aggitated-like I can't
sit still but not every month and it doesn't last long.
I had a CBC and CXR done just last year and neither of those showed anything abnormal
but  the doctor at the time mentioned that he felt my thyroid was a bit enlarged and the
next time I see my regular doctor (this was an employment exam) I should have him
do the TSH, etc.  I'm not due to see him until July and while I'm not super
concerned I sure would like to know if I should be!
  Thanks for your help.

Dear Barbara
From the description, without any testing, it is impossible to say what you have. If your thyroid seemed enlarged, you should get thyroid blood tests - there is no point in waiting several months. Your other symptoms could be due to PVCs or to heartburn, or something different. You should make an appointment to see your doctor so he can sort these issues out.
I hope this has been useful. I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to write back.
