Leaking Valves & Arrhythmia

To Whom It May Concern:                                                         I am a 36 y/o female with past medical hx significant for bilateral dbl pneumonia (90% both lungs)& f/u CT scans showed areas of calcification,  migraines, fibromyalgia, cardiac arrhythmia (tachycardia, up to 180 bpm), MVP, 3 leaking valves: pulmonic and triscupid valves have very small leaks and mitral valve leak is medium, heart murmur from leaking, and mild pulmonary hypertension previously it was 50 but on last echo it was 20.  I take metoprolol for my arrhythmia, it helps but I still get out sometimes.  I also have episodes of severe dizziness & lightheadedness as well as SOB on anything more than minimal exertion and very fatigued all the time.  As well as episodes of severe heaviness, tightness, and pain in my chest like my heart is clinching up, it's like a stabbing pain, which takes my breath and causes me to double over and takes hours to get over and is very scary.  I saw my cardiologist regarding these symptoms but he basically dismissed me saying that I was too young for my heart problems to be causing such symptoms.  Being that I am currently without insurance I can't just go back & forth from my PCP to cardiologist as if I don't have the money upfront I won't be seen which I understand.  I just need a little direction so that I can get in with the correct physician and get these things better controlled in hopes of getting somewhat of a life back.  I appreciate any advice as well as your time.  Thank you, Chasity

A certain amount of leaking is actually normal in heart valves, especially the mitrla, tricuspid and pulmonic valves. Indeed, in most people some degree of leaking is detectable with an echocardiogram. This is just part of the normal function of our heart valves. From what you describe it sounds like at least the tricuspid and pulmonic leaks are in this category of normal physiological regurgitation. The diagnosis of MVP certainly requires follow-up, however it would be unusual for it to cause symptoms if the degree of leaking (regurgitation) was just medium (moderate).
The treatment or monitoring of an arrhythmia depends very much on what type of arrhythmia it is, as there are many different types.
The chest pains do sound concerning, although as with many symptoms they can have a large number of causes and may be due to benign as well as serious causes. You may already have undergone some testing such as echo and ECG to exclude serious causes. Chest pains in the absence of serious heart disease are often benign.
I would encourage ongoing follow-up with a cardiologist to monitor your MVP and also to pursue the appropriate tests, if not already done.
