What causes right atrial enlargement and what kind of treatment is needed?

Hi Grabrielle,

Over 75% of the echo's we see have trace or mild PI, TR, or MR.  I doubt this is of any clinical significance.

It depends on how enlarged the right atrium is. Significant leaks in the tricuspid valve or pulmonary valves, pulmonary hypertension, a patent foreamen ovale, atrial septal defect, among a list of 100 other things could cause right atrial enlargment.  I am afraid a lot more information would be necessary to figure out a cause -- that is if we could even say for sure anyway.

It would all depend on how enlarged it is and how old you are before I decided if I was considred about isolated right atrial enlargement.
