Dear JK

High blood pressure is a common cause of an enlarged heart. Heart valve disease can do the same. Alcohol abuse can lead to heart enlargement as well. Methadone would not, but illicit drug use easily can. Emphysema that is severe can lead to enlargement of certain parts of the heart, though it would be unusual to develop that degree of emphysema so early in life. Certain causes of heart enlargement run in families.

I hope this has been useful. I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to write back.
