Routine Angiograms

Routine Angiograms

Are there any cardiologists who do "routine" angiograms to see if stents are still performing well after, say, 5 or more years?  Or is this just too risky without any cause to do so?  I'm just wondering if the patient would be attuned enough to note when he is having the start of blockage again to go to the doctor and not ignore it, eg, Bill Clinton knowing enough and being in enough "pain" to seek help.

My husband's stent is in a small artery in the back of his heart and he just casually mentioned to the doctor (not cardiologist) that every once in awhile he can actually feel the stent back there.  Can he really be feeling the stent or is it some more questionable artery problem?  Not sure I trust men and their attention to detail.

Routine angiograms aren't recommended because the risk is higher than the benefit.  Even routine stress tests arent' really recommended, although, many cardiologist perform them.  If your husband is having some chest pain, however, I would recommend an exercise stress test with imaging to assess his symptoms.
