Stress Test?

Stress Test?

I have a few questions about a stress test I went through.  I did the holter monitor and had an EKG.  The EKG picked up somehing I guess, and so did the holter monitor (fast heart rate?).  My question is why a stress test?  The dr prescribed atenolol which I take every morning.  Seems to work, no more racing is going on.  I am just curious, why the stress test?

I also have another question.  I was told at 12 that I have MVP.  When my new dr listened he said he couldn't hear anything.  About 6 months before that my old dr said he still heard it.  How could that be?  I have to go back in another month, will it show up then or not?  This is just strange to me.  Thanks for the information.  Have a good day!

Dear sah,

The stress test is used to determine the clinical significance of the arrhythmia that was found on holeter ( how it responds to exertion and stress) and may also rule out significant coronary artery disease .

Mitral valve prolapse may change over time and a leak may develope.  A new murmur should be followed up to make sure that your mitral vaalve is not leaking.  This is easily done with an echocardiogram.

I hope this has been useful. I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to write back.
