Tarter builup on teeth and plaque buildup in arteries?
I have heard that there may be some correlation between tarter buildup on teeth and the amount of plaque buildup in the artery walls.  Is there any truth to this theory?

Dear santiken,
There may be a connection between chronic infections, such as gingivitis (gum disease), and coronary artery disease.  The link may be the inflammation that the infection causes which leads to depositionof plaque building substances in the coronary arteries.  This is still only a theory and studies are underway to help sort this out.
