Tingling and numbness

by Bev, Aug 31, 1999 12:00AM
I have a Patent Foramen Ovale. My doctor has now decided just to use Plavix. Can you tell me if a PFO can cause tingling and numbness on just the left side of my face, hand ,and foot. This happens daily and seems to be when I exert energy, mild or otherwise. My doctor says she thinks it does, but I asked her why only now after 40 years, she said she didn't know. She said sometimes it is from migrianes and other times it is from the PFO. That doesn't make sense to me. Any ideas? Thank you.

Dear Bev

The PFO would not cause these symptoms unless you are having mini-strokes due to the PFO. If you are, the PFO needs to be surgically closed.

I hope this has been useful. I wish you the best of luck.
