heart damage

i have a missing heart valve flap causing chf, cardiomyopathy, tacycardia and now, ventricular arrythmia. i have been short of breath for almost a year.  they recently implanted a st jude icd which also includes a pacemaker.  i am still extremely short of breath and cannot do much of anything but walk very slowly.  it goes away at rest.  i am taking the beta blocker coreg which is my only heart med.  the rest are for the chf such as lasix, k-dur ad metalozone.  my question is:  can the prolonged shortness of breath cause further heart deteriorization?  I feel they have ingnored some of my inquiries etc.  i do go on the 18th and hopefully they will adjust meds and maybe my icd but i am starting to get worried.  i am so much less the person i was 2 years ago.

There is one key medication called an ace inhibitor that you should be on.  It helps making your heart work more efficiently in the setting of heart failure.  I think you have a serious situation on your hands and should see a specialist that is knowledgeable about it.  Changing the settings on the ICD may help but probably won't have much of an impact unless you have something called a biventricular pacemaker.  Again, a specialist who specializes in device therapy, an electrophysiologist, should see you and make sure that all the settings are right. As far as the valve goes, it sounds like you have mitral valve prolapse.  There are some new procedures that are out there that could help.  Finally, depending on your age and how functional you are if you heart does continue to fail, you should be considered for a transplant.  Heart failure due to valvular heart disease is progressive and will continue to get worse, unfortunately.
