Low pulse rate:

I have had a mild myio cardial infraction at the age of 38 (in July 1996)and now I am 52 years old.
I have been taking medicines nitrocontine and asprin 1 tablet per day for the past 10 years and
now I have reduced the frequency to 1 set of tablets every second day.
I was a smooker with 15 cigrarets per day when I had this mild heart attack.
I was treated in the hospital(no bye pass or angio plastry) for 9 days and
after treatment I was tested in the tread mill up to 173 heart rate.
I have stopped smooking/drinking immediatly.
I have neen maintaining my BP at around 120/80
Again I started taking BEER on the week ends regularly 6-8 beers for ever weekend for the past 3 years.
My BP started increasing to 140/89 and the pulse rate was normal. My weight WAS also increased to 188 lb
and my height is 5'6".
To bring my BP down I started doing my regular exercises in the Gym daily 1 hour in the evening.
I do 5 mins walking nd 30 mins running with a speed of 5.6 miles to 6.6 miles increaing the speed for every 3 mins
and cycling for 15 mins and other weights for 10  mins.
I also do breating exercise in the morning for 5 mins weekly 5 days and my BP came down to 124/84 a
nd It is flectuating from 178/79 to 128/88.
I have also completly stopped the beer for the past 4 months.
Now the problem is my BP is 124/84 but the pulse rate shows around 49-52/min.
I feel normal and I am able to reach a heart rate of 155-160 for few mins while running in the tread mill
and I don't feel any weakness or problem as I proceed to cycling.
Please let me know whether the low pulse rate is a problem.

The low pulse rate is not a problem at all.  If anything, it is a sign that the exercise and good habits are paying off because your heart is becoming more conditioned and able to maintain your blood pressure at a lower heart rate, meaning, it is more efficient.  Good work.
