pain in heart area

I had a pacemaker implanted 1966, i have complete heart block, and multiple old leads. I just had a new pacemaker put in nov 2009 (no lead repacement) I have now developed a sharp 1 to 2 second pain in my heart area, it will come and go for one to two times, stop and my go away for several hours. it started about 24 hours ago, it actually woke me up in the middle of the night (last night) I saw my family doctor today, he feels that it might be related to the old leads in the heart, I am 48 years old and also DX with CHF in 2006, taking coumadin, lasix, metoporolol . My cardiolgist is away and would like to get another opinion.

thank you

It's unlikely that the pain is lead related because you've had those leads for some time now.  If there was a fracture of one of the lead, it would be evident on a chest xray.  It would have to be compared to an old one to see if the lead appears different.  This is more likely a muscular or skeletal type of pain.  It could also be gerd.  I would suggest taking some tylenol for it at this time and see if it improves.
