question about EKG

Hi,

I had check up with cardioligist because of palpitations.  I suffer from panic disorder and doctor's and doctor's offices are one of the things that really make me panic.  I was having a panic attack in the doctor's office.  Anyway, he said the EKG showed non-specific (I think that't the term he used) changes but not to worry because he could tell it was because I was in a panic.  My pulse was around 110.  I've been worried about the abnormal EKG ever since.  How does he know it's from panic and how does he know it's normal when I'm not in a panic.  He did not feel I need any further tests done.  Can you offer any insight into this?  Am very worried and still feel irregular heartbeats.

Thanks for your help.

Dear Lisa

Probably your cardiologist concluded that you are young and healthy and anxious and unlikely to have significant heart disease, regardless of what the EKG shows. Panic itself would not cause any EKG changes, but a fast heart rate can.

I hope this has been useful. I wish you the best of luck.
