Breastfeeding and hepatitis B
Hello!

My name is Alexandra,I am 34 years old and I am from Romania.I hope you can help me with a medical opinion in the next issue:

I am infected with the hepatitis B virus and I am expecting my second baby who will come in 2 weeks.
My blood tests made in the 7th month of pregnancy showed the following:
ADN-HBV  3110 UI/ml(3.49 log)
AgHBe negative
ALT/TGP  32UI/ml
AST/TGO  22 UI/ml

My baby will receive Immunoglobulin and anti hepatitis B vaccine at birth.
Is it safe to breastfeed my child if I use breast shields and avoid nipple cracking?

I mention that I didn't breastfeed my first child 3 years ago.My ADN HVB was about 60000 UI then,and the doctors didn't allowed me to breastfeed.

I hope you can help me with an advise.

The guidelines recommend breastfeeding IF your baby receive HBIG and the HBV vaccination within 12 hrs of birth.
