last shot yesterday

dear community,
yesterday i made my last shot of pegasys(i did the triple with incivek)and next friday my treatment will be over.
sometimes i cant believe i made it through this 48 weeks.
the doc did order another pcr and checked my hgb.
i will see him 2 weeks after finished the treatment.

its a strange feeling for me,as it was/is a hard year with many problems and fears.
maybe i feel strange because i know that all i could do to kill this virus i have done, and its no more in my hands now what will happen from now on.
i hope i can recvover mentally and physicaly..
the fear of a relapse is present but i try to ignore,as i cant do anyway nothing but waiting.

i want to thank to all the poeple so much who supported me during this hard time.
this forum with all the lovely poeple has become a very special, helpful and important place for me.
i guess i still will be often here and ask some questions.as the waiting time for the post tx results can be very hard  i think.

how did you feel the last days of the treatment?

best wishes to all marc

I found the last week was one of the worst for me and I think it was mostly due to the stress of stopping. I was an emotional basket case and it was the only time during by 36 weeks of treatment that I called in sick. That was on my last day of treatment and I just wanted to baby myself.

When on the medication I knew the virus was out of my system and my liver was healthy. Now, two weeks off, I feel a lot better but like everyone else I'm scared it will come back.

Good luck with the next few months!

Congrats on the last shot.  It is a true milestone of completing the long 48 tx.  Another week of Riba and you'll be completely finished.  No more needles or pills to remember.  Then its on to recovery.  Each day you will feel better knowing this is behind you.  It's a major accomplishment and you should feel very proud.  Hopefully, you'll recover quickly and life will resume back to normal.  It does take time for though, so don't be impatient.

I also did a 48 week tx, but SOC.  I think I was probably one of the last few on the forum just prior to the release of the PI's.  I had to convince my doc to do a pcr at eot, because he didn't see the point.  It wasn't too hard to convince him, especially with the anger in my eyes.  Once I received the und for the eot pcr, then I tried to push away the worries and fear of relapse.  I don't even like using the R word.  I felt somewhat hopefull and confident, having a und at 4 weeks, but the fear still lingered.  Knowing there's always a bit of uncertainty, I tried to be "cautiously optimistic".  I stayed busy with other things, felt much better within a few weeks and didn't think much about it.  All the worrying in the world won't change the outcome, so why bother.

I figured don't bother with a pcr prior to 12 weeks, so that was the next and most important one.  I was a little anxious a few days before the 12 week pcr, then the day when the results were due, it weighed heavy on my mind.  These were the results to say either it worked or it didn't.   Fortunately, the results were good and was able to breath a big sigh of relief.   I wasn't too concerned about the 24 week results considing the durability of the 12 week - 99.7%

So, time to relax and get back to a normal life.  Focus on recovery and try not to worry about the next pcr.

thanks again for all the posts and wishes.appreciate this so much.

i hope and wish we all can become svr,but i know that some poeple will relapse.
but for now i want to focus on stabilize my mental condition.

as i said above already my doc checked my hgb this week and ordered a last pcr while on treatment.
this was in week 47(2 days before week 48) and i wonder if it does matter if i had my last pcr in week 47 instead of week 48 done?

he said when you are UND at week 47 you will be UND at week 48 also.

regards marc

Congratulations, I'm so happy that you've made it! For me the last couple of weeks were VERY rough, and I didn't begin to feel any improvement at all for about 7-10 days post-EOT. Then it was just mental and emotional improvement for the first couple of weeks, but having my mind come back was enough to thrill me for a while. I'm now 6 weeks post-EOT and more aspects are improving a little but there is still a lot left to improve. Best wishes!

Congrats on finishing treatment! For some reason my last shot and week was the most brutal for me.Generally it takes about 2 weeks after last Peg shot to feel better mentally. As far as feeling better physically it depends on each person, the faster your bloods go back to normal range the more energy you will have. You may have post tx sx lingering on and off for first 12 weeks post tx...Your muscles will be a little weak,so take easy.Keep yourself busy not to stress yourself over waiting for test results.Enjoy the moment you have crossed the finish line.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery and SVR

I followed your story from the beginning and often wondered with all that was going on in your life, how you found the strength to carry on.
You did it and you are an inspiration--congratulations!
We all worry about SVR, it is true. No one wants to go through that again but think positive and celebrate every day as you begin to feel better and better.
All the best

I am so happy for you that you are in your last week of treatment. Congratulations!

You asked how people felt. I have to agree with Can-do. I had mixed emotions. I was happy and relieved that I made it through treatment, but I was also extremely apprehensive that this was the end of treatment. I guess while I was still on treatment I felt like I was still working at obtaining SVR. But when I finished treatment I knew there was nothing more I could do. It was too late to change anything. I had to hope that I had done everything to ensure SVR. So, either I had done everything to ensure success or I had not. That was scary. I had to just sit and wait and see if it worked. Since I am only 10 weeks post end of treatment, I am still waiting.

I do think we are all apprehensive. We know we could fail treatment. We know some people do fail treatment. We are all hoping we are in the group that attains SVR. It is definitely scary.

Try not to dwell on it too much. Think positive. Enjoy your life without the medications. You will feel better soon.

Congratulations Marc, I know like most of us you had many issues to deal with during tx. I remember your early weeks when you were thinking about quitting but you still made it through.
Again Congratulations and next stop SVR!!!

I can relate to all of your feelings; I think it's very normal. Ending treatment is so emotional. I was scared after incivek was done and scared for eot relieved but scared), and I will be scared until my 12 week eot labs come in. Congratulations on a job well done, get healthy, and you will. We'll all be thinking good thoughts for you.

Marc you asked......
how did you feel the last days of the treatment?

For me I had mixed emotions, was glad it was coming to an end but on the other hand was worried, treatment became like a crutch to lean on... I don't think theres a person here that don't have that fear of relapsing, thats just normal. Just remember you had a fantastic response being und at week 4 and staying that way throughout treatment, also your not cirrhotic. Your odds are way up there, as a matter of fact they are in the 90% and up range. It just don't get any better then that.

Now marc this puts a smile on my face this morning, for you to have made it 48 weeks with what you have had to deal with is just fantastic. I have no doubt your going to be SVR... I really hope things work out well for you and your family. You have way more strength then you give yourself credit for.

Just remember this when things get tough, you can do it. Alot of people here could learn a few things from you, for you to do 48 weeks and some whine about doing 24... A huge congrats, I am very happy you are a friend of mine... Only the best to you guy...:) :)
