meloxicam

My fiance has hep c he also has 5 deteriorating discs, really bad knees and one night he went to bed with normal toes and woke up with what looks like hammer toes but isn't. (hammer toes don't come overnight do they?) Anyway, now he has been sent to a pain clinic for the severe pain he is in.  They know about the hep c and prescribed him meloxicam. Should he be taking this? I thought this was a drug that can harm the liver.  When we said something to the nurse at the pain clinic ( who knows about the hep c) she replied he should take it anyway, just see what happens. Is this right. Any info would help

meloxicam has been known to cause liver disease, I have read that it should be used with extream caution with patients with liver disease if at all. This drug is an NSAID, while from what I know, here and there use of an NSAID is usually no problem but the best choice for pain managment for liver disease patients is tylenol at the correct dose. When I was in extream pain they gave me vicodin, no NSAID.
