Herpes Whitlow

My husband recently had small bumps/blisters appear on the knuckles of his hands.  They are now disappearing after 4-5 days.  They do hurt but his fingers are not swollen or red, as most of the descriptions of Herpes Whitlow have described.  Neither of us have a history of HSV-1 or HSV-2 and have not had any blisters appear anywhere else on our bodies.  I am just trying to figure out if this is in fact Herpes Whitlow, as the symptoms I have found online don't quite match up, or something else such as an allergic reaction or from heat exposure due to his job.  Thank you in advance.

I've been told by folks who have had whitlow that it hurts like a SOB.

At this point no way to know what's going on unless he's seen by his provider and had an exam and testing done.
