I apologize for the stupid question....

by irishdave1313, Jun 22, 2009 04:06PM
This is my first time using this forum, and the first time I've ever run across anything like this.  I am totally clean and free from any STD's, but haven't been tested in about 6 months or so.  I starting hanging out with this woman, and we've gotten a little serious.  She told me that she has HSV2 and that when she has outbreaks, they are limited to her anus.  That's fine with me, because I don't really get into that.

We had regular vaginal sex with a condom, and it was great.  However, now that I'm thinking about things, I'm a little nervous about something.  Before intercourse, I did perform cunnilingus on her for about 30 minutes or so.  By doing that, do I risk transmitting the HSV2 to myself?  Or would that only happen during an outbreak?

Once again, I apologize for the stupid question, but I just don't know....and wasn't able to find the answer in the forums here.

Thanks for your time.

Oral HSV2 is very rare.

As to vaginal sex though, there's still a risk. While her outbreaks may be anal, she still technically could shed/transmit from the entire genital region. Does she use suppressive therapy as well? Here are the odds of transmission, just to put your mind at ease.

FEMALE TO MALE RATE OF TRANSMISSION (HSV2 ONLY STATS IS NOT APPLICABLE FOR HSV1)

If you have 100 couples where the female has HSV2 but not the male (these figures are over a year) the odds of female to male transmission are, if you do nothing other than avoid sex during an outbreak, 4 men out of a 100 will get herpes in a year, or 4%. If you do go on a suppressive therapy then it drops to 2 men out of a 100 in a year, or 2%. And if you use suppressive and a condom the chances are 1 man out of a 100 will get herpes in one year or 1%.

The Valtrex and transmission study stats are based on having sex 2 times/week.

Become educated even further by reading the Herpes Handbook, link here:
