Sexual activity with an uninfected partner

Sexual activity with an uninfected partner

I said in the past that I would be abstaining from sex so as to not infect any one. And so far I have abstain from sex for the past 3 years or longer.  However, I only known I had HSV1 for about a year. Anyhow, I rarely get cold sores. I would say only 3 times a year max.

So my question is, if should I choose to get off the abstinence bandwagon should I only seek out women who have HSV1? Is it immoral to engage in sexual activity with an individual without HSV1 knowing you could well infect them with it? (Of course, I will let them know that I get cold sores)

Lastly, since I rarely get any cold sores, what is the risk of infecting my partner with it? 60%, 40% when cold sores are not present? Can all sexual activity be performed at this time?

Hey, thanks for the input :-)

To answer your question.  The choice is yours.  We aren't a moral compass here so its hard for us to tell you which way to go.  Though I am of the thought that if you tell your partner let them choose what to do.  HSV isn't a reason to cease sexual contact and isn't a reason to cease seeing someone.  It's a skin condition.  It's not going to kill you.

There is no valid number we can give you as a percentage of what risk your partner will take.  Though I will tell you if you avoid sexual contact with your partner when a coldsore is present or you feel that one is comming on then you should be fine.  Wait until the skin has fully healed.  There is about 18% of days a year where you will shed the virus on the skin without any symptoms.  In that case you can infect your partner but again its a low risk.
