Should I be worried

Should I be worried

I had unprotected sex with a female partner 5 days ago.  We have been together for about 5 years and have been faithful to each other the entire time and have had sex regularly(3 - 4 times per week).  She was visually diagnosed with genital herpes about 8 months ago.  She never received any confirmation of the diagnosis other than the doctor saying it looked like herpes.  She has had no other outbreaks or any symptoms since.  I just noticed a small red spot at the base of the head of my penis.  It does not hurt and is not raised.  This is the only spot I have every noticed.  Prior to my relationship with this woman, I was in a monomagous relationship for 15 years and neither I nor my partner ever had signs or symptoms of herpes.  Is it possible for herpes to be dormant for that lenght of time with no outbreaks or other symptoms?

A visual diagnosis is not enough and it's a shame you two have went this long without follow up testing done :(

At this point I recommend that you both get type specific herpes igg blood tests to see who has what.  She doesn't even know what type she has and you don't know your status for the two of you to have been deciding what precautions, if any to take together.

The herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com is a terrific and free resource that I recommend that both of you read thru when you get a chance to learn more.
