hsv transmission prevention

i was wondering if anyone knew of a barrier method for preventing genital hsv infection for the rest of the body besides the penis (testicles, legs, anal area, etc).  does something like this exist, or could you just wear like boxers or plastic wrap or something to prevent skin to skin contact?  also ive read that viral shedding occurs most often just before an outbreak and can be predicted by a tingling or itching in the lower back or genital region.  is there any actual truth to this?  thanks
