Poll to improve polls!

Hi Gang, I asked Medhelp about improving the polll function so that it will allow for multiple responses, not just one.  See my question and their response below.

http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/716053?personal_page_id=6257&post_id=post_3789434

This came up as a result of the poll I did the other day asking which risk factors for MS.  Since these are of course multiple, I wanted the poll to collect multiple answers from each respondent, however we could only choose one, which of course ends up in skewed results.  Thanks for writing out your answers to the question.  In future it would be nice if the application would do that for us.

POLL QUESTION:  Would you like Medhelp to design a poll that would allow for multiple responses?

You can select "more options" so at least you can get up to 8 (IIRC). However, it's still very clunky and irregular method as e-polls go.

I would like to see multiple option or else increase the number of options you can create.  Sometimes in the medical area you want to ask about symptoms or previous histories so multiple choices or the ability to make more choices which would contain some of the options (i.e. a, b, c, d, a&b, a&c, etc.).

All other web sites that I've used have polls that allow multiple options -- for the type of reason that the OP mention. If the poll doesn't allow multiple options, then it basically forces the OP to create multiple options themselves, which is annoying.

Of course the polls can be unreliable/skewed, but I see no reason why they should be any less reliable/skewed than other responses.  It's an intrinisic limitation of these web sites that comments are unsubstantiated and the number of responses is too few to gather meaningful stats (other web sites may have typically 50 votes for a question). One always has to use one's judgement to interpret the results/comments.

However, I would also appreciate if folks tried to post single topic, rather than flood multiple forums with the same poll/questions.

I don't participate in polls. I think they are unreliable and lead to erroneous conclusions.

Multiple choice polls are the worst. If you want to ask about six different symptoms, you will probably end up seeing ten symptoms mentioned anyway. Better to ask for verbal input rather than a poll. You'll get the verbal input anyway.

As an example, I didn't vote in this poll, but you have my opinion, which skews the results.

They also pop up to the top every time someone votes in one, which gets old after a month or two.

Personally, I would just as soon see the poll option go away.

I think the system they have in place is a good one. Not many polls allow you to select mutiple choices to begin with.
When Med Help gives us a new feature they have already researched that option. Lets say the trackers Med Help knew when they put this in place that there would be more added and others would want to add one thats not so popular. So they have obliged with no argument.

I am not sure about others here this is just my opinion
