liver lesions that have increased by 100%

by dee1975, May 28, 2009 06:49PM
I had a Ct scan w/ contrast due to upper right quadrant pain a few weeks ago and they found up to 11 liver lesions which could not be determined as unremarkable so an MRi was recommended.  I had the MRi done last week and they still can not determine for sure that all are hemangiomas.  So I have an appt with a liver dr in a month.

My question is:  Back in 2005 I had an Mri done also due to upper right quadrant pain and they found 1 liver lesion which they deemed to be a hemangioma and insignificant.  Now I have up to 11that are measurable and 3 that are not.  Is this normal for the amount of lesions to increase so dramatically in such a short amount of time (4 years). ???

I am a 34 y.o. female.  I do not take birth control pills and haven't for about 6 years.  I do not smoke.  I have an occasional alcoholic drink for special occasions.  I have 3 children.  My grandmother died of liver disease.

Hi Dee ,
I had a ultrasound in Dec . 08 where they incidentally found 2 liver leisons in my left lobe .1 cm and 3 cm ? I just had my follow up MRI last Friday . I picked up my results from radiology , but do not see the doctor until Monday . I asked to havae the new contrast EOVIST , it is supposed to be helpful in diagnosing tumors . Especially FNH and adenomas . My report now says I have 5 leisons . 3 not measuring over 1.2 cm and 2 without measurement .  The one they did not show a size could be adenoma .and I have no idea what happened to the FNH that supposedly measured 3 cm ? I am thinking this contrast was more efficient .  I am on birthcontrol and will be getting off soon .I wonder if these tumors could be fed on our natural estrogen ? I here of many women who have been on birthcontrol on limited basis and still end up with these growths .
I guess I am not alot of help , but understand what your going through .
Tracy
