muscle spasms and pain after liver transplant

My husband is 4 years post liver transplant. He is on Prograff and his liver is doing fine but he has chronic abdominal pain which he takes methadone and valium . He has had pain since his surgery which the the pain doctors felt was from the nerve endings try to grow through the scar tissue. The pain medicine helps but now he is having severe muscle spasms in his abdomen that radiates to his back and his abdomen become hard when these occur and the pain med does nothing for it. He also has incisional hernias but the doctors do not feel these are causing him problems. He also has aching all over his body too like arthritis all over. Do you know what causes these symptoms and anything that works for this ?

typically the pain related to the incision eventually resolves which unfortunately may not be the case here.  he should maybe see a rheumatologist to make sure he does not have an arthritic condition.  he should not take NSAID as they can adversely affect his kidneys.
