I wondered about this when I saw that you might be able to use the partnership program.  I don't have any clue how something like this would work.  If someone with MS gave any organ to someone else, would they get MS.  Or would their chances of getting MS increase because of the donated organ?

Have there been any kind of study for this?  Or has someone else done something similar to what you want to do who has had MS?

This whole situation has got to be absolutely gut-wrenching.  :(  I am so so sorry that you both have found yourselves in this position...

Hugs to you both,
Addi

For now the transplant office is thinking I am not a candidate to be donor because I have MS.

The logic is that the do not want someone who might be negatively impacted as a donor.

I will try to convince them I can be a donor nonetheless.

So sorry to hear this news.

I hope that they find a match soon.

Try and stay as calm as possible - I know this is easier said than done, but at least you can come 'here' and vent all you like.

Hugs,

Debs X

Wow.  I am so sorry that you and your wife have to experience this.  I have heard of the program that partnerships people together for transplants.  I hope you find someone quickly that works for al involved.  Please keep us posted when you can.

Try real hard to stay relaxed.  I am sure the stress level is through the roof, unintentionally. I know it is easier said than done.  I would just hate to see you flare at this time.

Hugs, Addi

Thank you.

Right now, if allowed, I will donate my kidney.  Even if my blood type does not match there is a program were we can partner with another couple in similar situation:

I'm sorry to hear that.

Good luck, don't be afraid to reach out for help if you need to.  If friends and family can't, the hospital usually has volunteers etc.  Things like drives back and forth to the hospital from a volunteer can be a lifesaver (is your wife on dialysis schedule?)

I'm very scared of my kidneys failing. It is a common occurance in my rare cancer, and we are not elibible for transplant. (it's due to the high protein load the kidneys are subjected to)

Oh my, the cr ap just keeps piling on for you, doesn't it?  I am so sorry to hear about your wife - here's hoping a kidney becomes available for her soon.  hugs, L

@JemmAum - tell your friend thanks for all the transplant patients in the world. I just worked a race this weekend for GO RED for Women's Heart Health and the last person on the course was a heart transplant patient - he got his 5 years ago.  Modern medicine is sometimes nothing short of miraculous.

Sad to hear your news. My friend's son just died 2 weeks  ago, 2 weeks shy of his 21st brithday, from a heart attack (a congenital abnormality no one was aware of caused it).

His death gave new life to 3 people - one teen girl with cystic fibrosis got his lungs, and two middle aged people got a kidney each.

I hope your wife gets a new kidney.....though the pain of loss for the donor's family is hard to deal with....

I am really sorry to hear.  You and your family have been through h*ll these last couple of years.  What Sumanadevii says is true, and hopefully a donor match is found quickly so your wife doesn't have a lengthy wait.

It sure does suck...big time.  However, they have kidney transplants down to a science today.  I have a friend that has had two.  The first one was way way way back when the procedure was new.  His last one was done and over so quickly!!  Let's hope for a match soon.  I do know she needs to stay healthy while on the list.

I am thinking of both of you...What an ordeal you have been though.  I guess it might be true...what doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

I, too, am sorry to hear this sad news. I will keep both of you in my thoughts and prayers.

Remember to take one day at a time, and some days, one hour at a time.

Sending good thoughts your way,
Ren
