Just introducing myself

Hello Everyone,

My name is Carol, nickname jaegergirl, and I am so happy to have found this site! I have been living with MS for many years now. I have had a difficult time with acceptance and have often found ignorance to truly be bliss!  Although they suspected MS way back when I was 26 years old (47 now) it wasn't until 40 that I allowed a true diagnoses.
I was to afraid of losing my job, children and relationships by acknowledging that something might truly be wrong with me. As it turns out my support system was stronger than I ever dreamed possible and being superwoman wasn't necessary after all. I did lose my job and many relationships but everything truly important has risen to top. I feel stronger happier and more blessed than ever to have what I have and live as I live.  I am now looking for ways to share my experience, learn from others experience and do what I can to live with this disease rather than for this disease.
I am unfortunately terrible with computers. I sometimes have difficulty getting my thoughts from my brain through my fingers so please bear with me. I am currently on Rebif an Interferon injection and have in the passed year also been on Copaxone but stopped taking it due to injection site infection.  I also take alot of Gabapentin and pain meds.  I know very little about this disease and treatments available for it. I took a different path and prolonged the inevitable by burying my head in the sand for years and literally limping through life. I don't regret that and actually I sometimes regret coming out closet (so to speak) because I don't ever want this MS monster to define me. Once I started to talk about it I couldn't seem to stop.  I hope that by having people such as yourselves "talk" about it to I can get to a place of better understanding and knowledge.
-Carol

Hello fellow Washingtonian! I'm a little further south than you. I can SO relate to the denial thing. MS was mentioned at 29, and at 33 I really did have an exacerbation and MS was 'diagnosed'. I promptly put that info away in the denial closet of my brain. After all, I didn't have any more symptoms, so...

In 2002 my opthamologist ordered an MRI and was very sad to tell me it showed that MS was a distinct possiblity. I was almost relieved! Got into a great neuro right away who put me on Avonex. I haven't had an exacerbation for 27 years but on April 1 of this year I had a doozy! I am 60 years old! I am really thankful for the opthamologist who ordered the MRI in the first place.

I finally had to admit to myself in 2002 that yes, I do have MS. But it does not have ME! I am still the same person. I have always felt knowledge is power, so read up on everything you can - the health pages are great. Welcome, welcome, welcome!

Welcome Carol. I'm not a Dx, just a Pest, hehe. I'm glad you found this site of incredibly helpful, and even more incredibly nice people. They definitely make you feel welcome here.  You gotta watch out for a couple of these people though, you know who you are (wink wink), lol.

Hi Carole

Just to add my welcome to everyone else's. I have been using this forum for only 2 months since my dx in March this year and already feel that I am getting to know many people. As you have already been told by others..the site is very friendly, supportive and a wealth of information.

I have found that reading the posts I have learned so much about MS, and I really value the openness, honesty and trust that is shared. This forum has helped me in many ways that close friends have been unable to...as there is a deep connection that bonds us to each other.

I loved your positive attitude and by the way we are the same age. I live in UK but as I said it does not matter where we all live..as we all have at least one thing in common.

Cheers for now and hugs,

Sarah :)

What a wonderful Welcome- Thank you.  I feel really blessed to have accidentally stumbled onto this site.

I am trying to figure out how to navigate my way around. Unfortunately I have allot of trouble with my memory so learning takes me awhile. Oh well I will eventually figure it all out.

Jaeger is best served cold- really really cold but I have found that alcohol and my condition don't mix well. So, outside of an occasional glass of wine my Jaeger days are in name only. I am Carol Jaeger.

Thank you for all of your help getting me started. I have really enjoyed the Health Pages and have found them to be really enlightening. I have to keep going back and re-reading them partly due to my memory and partly due to my surprise at the fact that all that I have been suffering alone has an explanation.

It is funny how many things I forget to ask the doctor about considering how often I seem to be in his office. I also feel silly bringing up every symptom, which I understand is also, in itself- silly.

This site will be such a wonderful resource for me- I am so very pleased to have found you all!

Goodnight- Carol

Hi Carol and welcome.  No need to worry, you expressed yourself beautifully.

I can kind of relate.  Twenty years ago (age 38) the MS specialist told me "not to worry" about my symptoms being MS.  So I didn't!

At age 58 I was overcome by what couldn't be ignored or explained away any longer.  I don't know what coulda, woulda, shoulda been..... It's just what it is now and I don't have regrets either (except for the fact that I'm 20 years older now no matter what).

We will be glad to get to know you as Carol NOT Carol with MS.

Hi Carol, I've been seeing  your posts and wondered about the jaeger part - do you like it chilled or is it a different jaeger?  LOL

Its great that you felt you wanted to share more about yourself- we love meeting new people here.  I know that sounds corny, but it really is true.

Welcome again - as everyone else has said, this is a great place to be.

be well, Lulu

Hi Carol,

Welcome to our little corner of the web, its a very friendly and supportive corner. I'm sure you will have a lot to impart, as well as learn, its that kind of place, well i'm always learning something new, or maybe it just feels that way because my brain has a few holes in it. lol

Alex pointed out the health pages (yellow icon top right) and the spacing out of your posts so we can read all you have to say. Some of the members need to write in capitals, they are not shouting so please dont ever be offended.

It is a great and often fun place dispite the topic, so welcome aboard, i'm sure some of the others will be along soon with a confortable warm welcome. :-)

Cheers........JJ

Welcome to the forum, it's always nice to add friends to our friends list.  I can understand how you might feel about not wanting to accept MS when you first found out (26 age) but now having more symptoms you need to find out more info on this Dx..

so read up info on the Health Pages and ask any questions or just chat, vent, we do it all here..

take care

Hi Carol,
I am a late comer to diagnosis as well. No one is here to judge your writing skill. You have experience to share.

It would help folks like me with eye problems if you could break your writing into paragraphs with spaces in between. I end up skipping a big block of print most of the time.

The HealthPages up at the top right are great.

I hope you stay.
