7.5 Month Old with Suspected Seizures

My 7.5 month old son is suspected of having seizures.  Several times a day, his right hand will tense up and stretch out(his fingers are pulled apart in a funny way - like toes pull apart when you have a charlie horse/cramp in your leg) and his hand begins to shake.  He will stare at his hand intently while that is happening.  Sometimes, you can watch him begin to stare at his hand and suddenly his hand tenses up into that position and begins to shake.  We awaiting the results of his E.E.G.

He was born with an unusual shaped and small head.  He has had 2 x-rays and 1 CT scan to look for craniosynostosis.  His metopic suture was fused before 18 weeks of age.  His soft spot could not be felt at his 6 month check up, but x-rays afterwards showed that it was still open, but very small.

Does this sound like seizures at all?  Could these possible seizures (or whatever is happening) be related to early fusion of his metopic suture or smaller than average head size?

What you are describing may be a seizure, and obtaining an EEG is very important. I am not aware of a direct correlation between metopic suture closure and epilepsy. However, the underlying cause (I assume you are having this evaluated) may cause seizures. Also, in severe craniosynostosis, hydrocephalus or increased intracranial pressure could occur which may cause seizures (but less likely). I assume you are being evaluated by a pediatric neurologist. Are they planning on doing a MRI? This would help to evaluate the strucutre of the brain tissue. Good luck.
