In reviewing the medical literature, there are at least ten reports of use of radiofrequency lesioning for relief of lower back pain. The procedure involves lesioning the posterior branch of the affected spinal nerve root(s) and had a success rate varying from 20-80%, depending upon the individual series. Mt. Sianai Medical Center (NY, I presume) seems to have the most experience with the procedure. The relief seems to range from as little as a few months to as long as permenent in those who respond to it. I did not encounter any reports on treating stress fracture related pain specifically, and you may wish to inquire regarding this. Complication rates seem low from the reproted experiences, although one case of permanent spinal cord damage is reported (out of many cases). I hope this additional information is useful.
