I have been experiencing a sensation of what I can only describe as a numbness and tingly feeling in my feet and lower legs.  This has been going for over 4 years.  I have consulted my family practitioner, gynegologist, and ear, nose, and throat specialist, but have not received a satifactory response.  One doctor suggested that my shoes might be too small, but that isn't the case.  I tend to not be as aware of it during the day when I'm up and about, but at night when I'm in bed and in the morning, it is very evident.  I'm am an active person who walks for at least 45 minutes 4 to 6 times per week.  I'm in very good health and of an appropriate weight for my height.  My mother died of a very slow growing brain tumor at age 71 and my father, who is 77 is in good health.  He did have a heart attack several years ago and an angioplasty a few years ago.  I am 44 years of age, female, in what I would call the early stages of menopause, and have three children.  This condition seems to be getting worse with more of my legs affected.  I am not in pain, but the feeling is quite uncomfortable.  I feel as though I have to move my feet and legs often to relieve the sensation somewhat.  I also have twitchy legs at times. My feet seem to be very cold or very hot!  They sometimes appear to be slightly swollen.  I drink plenty of fluids and eat a reasonably healthy diet.
Diane,
Hi!  Well I have very similar symptoms to yours tho mine has just started. I was a healthy tho obese premenopausal woman about the same age(48) with two children.  Mine is mainly a tingling and semi-numbness in the middle toes on my left foot with a "sock" feeling every once in a while.  However, I feel better when I lie down and walk but sitting really bothers me, especially sitting with my feet propped up.  My mom died of cancer and my dad had his first heart attack a few years ago at 74.  Would you be interested in keeping in touch as things progress?  This is the third thing I've had this year, esophageal reflux(GERD), trouble swallowing and this.  The last two are all in my head (anxiety), according to my doc.  He doesn't even want to deal with me any more because he thinks I need a shrink.  It's a very lonely feeling, because if I need to talk to him, I don't feel I can.
The shrink I finally went to doesn't think it's anxiety.   I'm scheduled for nerve and muscle tests next week but the neuro doc acted as if he didn't think he'd find anything.  I wonder if there are cases in which they find no reason for the symptoms-I notice the doc told you there are 100 reasons for peripheral neuropathy??!!!!  Anyway, if you are willing, my E-mail is ***@****.  If you'd rather not, I understand as I know how busy kids can keep you.    Take care, Pam
