I have developed a series of pains. First off it started in the lower left abdominal region to the groin area and then spread to the lower back, thigh area, down fronts of thighs, and extremely tender down the side of thigh. My left side hurts worst but it has also started in my right side also. I am awakened in the night because my hips are killing me. I sleep on my sides and it aches. If I sit the pain in my lower back, thighs and legs is constantly bothering me. If a move around it is there but not as bad. If I'm sitting down and have to sneeze, it hurts to the point I have to say ooch out loud!
I went to the emergency room last week and the dr. said PMS. I know this is more than that. I did have blood tests done and urine tests and everything came back normal.
I went to the gynocologist because I thought maybe it was a woman thing but a physical exam and ultrasound the dr. concluded were normal and he stated that it was some kind of muscular pain.
I went to the chiropractor and he did his thing but it didn't help.
No body has suggested that this could be sciatic nerve and I have been reading about it and I would like to know if the symptoms I am having might suggest that it could be. Also, what dr. should I see to help me.
I would like to know if I should apply ice or heat and what pain reliever to take. My gyn. dr. gave me Darvoct - N but it made me hyper and made my stomach very sick and it really didn't help the pain.
Please help me I need some advice.
Thank You.
Michele

Your pain does not sound like sciatic pain to me. The sciatic nerve does not supply the abdominal region and pain down the front of the thigh would be very atypical.
Sciatic pain radiates down the back of the thigh sometimes right down into the foot. At this stage on the basis of the information available it is not clear as to the exact source of the pain, for this reason I would not make specific reccomendations regarding treatment until the underlying cause is clarified.
I would suggest that you start by consulting a neurologist for a detailed neurological assessment, then you may require an EMG to isolate the exact nerve roots or peripheral nerves involved in this process. The first step in treating this roblem is to obtain a diagnosis, then definitive treatment can proceed.

Dear Dr.
I do have a herniated disc (L-5) could this be causing the pain.
I have contacted a neurologist and they would not see me until I was referred by an MD.
As far as the person saying that this might be fibromyalgia can you explain a little about this. The idea scares me. Also, the other problems I have had was Panic Disorder (but this seemed to cease in the last few weeks) and I do wake up at night and can't fall back to sleep, I have IBS, sinus problems.
What do I do for relief?
Thank You!
