Seizure after C-Section??

Seizure after C-Section??

I am a 29 year old female who had my second child by a repeat c-section in February.  During the surgery (I was awake) I began to get a horrible headache.  In recovery about 40 minutes later my left leg went numb, started to shake and I was out.  I woke up about 10 minutes later to learn that I had a seizure.  They did a CT Scan and an EEG in the hospital and my case was presented to the head of neurology at the hospital.  The test were all normal and I was told that it was probably caused by the anesthesia.  Is this possible?  I have never had any problems before this and haven't had any problems since.  Should I be worried about any future anesthesia I may need?

Dear Robyn:
Based on the little information I have, I can not exclude the possibility of anesthetics inducing seizures, although it is a rare occurrence.
The fact that you some leg symptoms followed by loss of consciousness and seizure, makes me suspect that you may have had what we call a partial seizure. In these situations, the possibility of brain lesion should be excluded. CT scan is good rule out large tumors, big bleeds... but not enough to exclude smaller more benign lesions that may be lead to seizures.
I would recommend that you get  a second opinion from an Epilepsy specialist.
If you desire to be seen at the Cleveland Clinic, you may call 1 800 CCF CARE.
Good luck
