Twitching, Fasciculations

Subject: Twitching, Fasciculations

Forum: The Neurology and Neurosurgery Forum

My calves and feet starting twitching approximately 20 months ago. My hands also started at the same time. I felt stiff in my legs and hands but was able to do the regular work and exercises as I always had. The only difference was that I had no "desire" energy but actually had the stenght when I started exercising. This twitching has progressed to my thighs and occasionally on many parts of my body. My eyes twitch when I blink and sometimes they start twitching with no warning. I feel that my tongue twitches also and I feel that I have a hard time talking, but nobody else can tell. This has been going on for 9-12 months. I feel that I have a lump in my throat and at times I feel that some food gets stuck in my throat. I do not think that I have a hard time swallowing since I eat at the same speed as before. I have had a cough and sometimes cough after eating. My neck hurts at time.I feel always tired although when I have to do something, I do it. I have read all the information on ALS in the internet and some of my friends feel that I have created some of these symptoms.
I have visited two neurologists in the Bay Area. Both have given me a diagnosis of "begign fasciculations" and "anxiety-depression". The last neurologist was visited in February. I have not noticed any loss of muscle mass in the areas where the twitching is most prevalent, I can still type the same number of words at the same pace, when I go the gym I can still do the same number of weights and repetitions. I have pain in my mucles and they really hurt if somebody massages them. One thing to note. I take Adavant to sleep and when I lie down in bed, my pains disappear, I do not feel any twitching during the night, at all, and when I wake up I also do not feel any twitching. The twitching starts as soon as I get up.
The neurologists claim that if I had ALS, I would have shown major atrophies and mass reduction in my muscles and my weakness not only would be felt but alto seen in my exercise routine. The pain in my muscles, according to them, is part of the begign fasciculation problem and perhaps my depression. I would like some comments on the matter, if you could, please. I have made my life an obsession with ALS over the past 15 months and do not know what to do next. Are the neurologists correct? Can you have begign fasiculations all over? Even in your tongue? Why do I seem to get every symptom after I become aware of it from the Internet? Am I really depressed? Help.
