In the rehabilitation of peripheral nerve injuries, exercise does not curtail the healing process, and a structured exercise program/physical therapy will probably help the healing process by increasing electrical transmission through the residual or stunned nerves and stimulate them to regrow or recover. Recovery takes place over weeks to months, and at 1 year the maximal recovery is likely to be reached. An EMG (needle electrical study) can give prognostic information on the injury (severity/type of injury/likliehood of recovery) if not done already.
