head injury

my husband (33years old) had a blow to the right side of his forehead
and received 30 stiches, this hit on the head was caused by a 1 tonne rock
falling out of a backhoe and hitting a crowbar which in turn hit him in the head then threw him back into a rock retaining wall,he passed out for
1 or 2 minutes, but that is only an estimate as he can't remember. Since then he has had speech problems ,loss of balance, constant headaches, sharp
stabbing pain in back of headand constant throbbing where the scar is on the front of his head, loss of eyesight and loss of three feilds of vision in right eye, double vision, queziness, tingling in right leg and buttocks
and back pain.M.R.I scan of lumbar back showed left paracentral disc protrusion L5-S1and brain scan showed pseudocyst in the perivascular space of the right lateral lenticulostriate territory in the sub-frontal brain
The problem i have is the doctors say that there is nothing wrong and obviously there is as his eyesight is getting worse as are the headaches .  He is in so much pain but i can't seem to get any answers from the doctors please help
Dear Marg:
I understand your frustration but for completeness' sake your husband needs
to be seen by an ophthalmologist to evaluate his visual symptoms and
provide an explanation as to what is going on with the his eyesight.
He also needs to have his neck examined because after this type of injury
he may have developed neck problems which may be causing his headaches.
He also may need to have an MRI of the brain as CAT scans of the brain
are good screening tools but may not provide the needed detail to
determine all these problems. It is also important to remember that in
patients with trauma a lot of their back/neck pain is related to muscle
strain and spasm and as such may cause a lot of concern that only time
will fix. The problems could be very simple and not require any treatment
or he may have a serious problem if these additional studies are done which
may require more serious attention. In any event, if you have any further
questions or thought please write back. Good Luck!
