Adhesions

Just wanting some opinions from those that have dealt with adhesions/scar tissue.

Back in Feb 09, I had a laparotomy done to remove a tumor (L1, S5 - underneath the aorta), along with my left ovary that had a complex cyst on it. The tube was also removed. My stomach is back to normal, I did recupperate for 6 weeks before returning to work. No issues with surgery.

For the last month I have had pain in the right side close to my belly button, especially after I eat. It is a tearing, pulling, pinching, burning pain. It is tolerable for now, just don't eat as much. I do take Aleve/Tylenol for the pain. It will hurt just sitting down, the pain alleviates if I apply pressure in the area. I do take 3-Aleve, and 2 Tylenol at one time, twice a day.

Here is my question, should I bother going to the doctor? I have an appt. on the 1st of Sept. with him for this issue, but I told my husband that I should probably cancel it since there is not anything they can do for adhesions any way and I don't want them to think I am a complainer. The last time I saw my doctor was in May.

Everything I have read seems to indicate that you pretty much have to learn to deal with the pain. On a scale of 1-10, the pain is only about a 3 daily, and it only comes when I eat a solid meal, so I have been eating light, (pudding, apple sauce, jello, soups). Trust me when I say I do NOT NEED to lose weight. Also certain movements cause pain; but when it hurts it hurts...

Just wanted opinions that all. - Thanks.

HI,
I just read your posts re your fallen bladder, I also have a cystocele but my oncologist won't clear me for surgery. He says recovery would take a while and I couldn't have chemo while I'm having surgery and recovering.
I have a pessary which keeps the bladder from dropping out of my body, how gross is that?
I also wish I had the surgery years ago, but it got really bad after my ovca surgery. I guess there was less to hold it in place.

Take care of yourself, and feel well.

I sent you a PM.

The cystopscopy did not hurt me in anyway.

Did the cystoscopy hurt?

I read online that they use local or general anesthesia when you get it done, and you will feel pain when you urinate for about a week afterwards. Also there will be blood in your urine for a couple of days afterwards too. Is that true?

Yes i had the cystoscopy done.

I had to do a test where they fill your bladder up and then have you on a tilt table (they put you in a standing position) and you are asked to urinate, while you are literally standing there (towels between your legs of course) urinating, they take x-rays.

That is how they discovered my slightly fallen bladder.  The sling procedure is where they lift your bladder up using certain type of mesh. You can google sling procedure, and it will tell you all you need to know.

I wish I had done this many years ago....

What is a sling procedure?

And how did your urologist find out you had a fallen bladder? Did you do a cystoscopy?

Funny you should mention that. I always had trouble with frequency a lot before the surgery.

After many tests (Urologist), they finally discovered I had a slightly fallen bladder. Before my urologist thought  IC, OAB, diabetes insipidus, and drank to much, but they quit saying that when I would become dehydrated. I  had the sling procedure done back in June 09, and I can honestly say, it has cut down my frequency from about 40 times to about 10 times and I can actually travel for 3hrs without stoping every 10 mins. I never thought they would have figured out my problem, but this urologist really cared and explored a lot of possibilities..

I had a laparotomy 8 weeks ago to remove a 6cm endometrioma cyst. Right now I have to go urinate very frequently. The urologist said it could be because of adhesions.

I'm going to do a cystoscopy next week, if they approve it. Hopefully I can find out what it is.

I would keep the appointment.  Adhesions shouldn't affect you when you eat.  You may have an issue with your gallbladder.  If it is adhesions take a look at the health pages (top right).  There is a posting there on using ball rolling to help alleviate adhesion pain.  Good luck!
