How do you tell what type of cyst a cyst is?

Does anyone know of a safe way for the doctors to determine what kind of cysts I have?
Thanks.

Click on the HealthPages and there is one on Types of Ovarian Cysts-Symptoms.  It is not all inclusive but it is pretty thourough.  I do think there are better sites out there, I just have not had time to find them.
I do hope it helps a little.
Kindest Regards,

I didn't get the transvaginal ultrasound. They just did a CT scan where I had to drink barium and then they inject something into your bloodstream (that makes you feel kind of funny). They just said there was a cluster of cysts and that was it. I just had the CT done on Sunday and I'm going out of country on Saturday so I guess I can see about having that done when I get back. That ultrasound sounds safer than the Laparoscopic method. Thanks!

Hi,
Agree with Trudie. Sometimes though, it isn't absolute. I had a very small cyst back in December. They originally thought it to be solid.. like a fibroma. Being postmenopausal, t
didn't want to take any chances. Long story short---- they removed ovary along with cyst.. turned out it was "simple cyst".. But most of the time , as Trudie said, they can \have a fairly good idea. Have you had the TVUS yet??

In many cases a transvaginal ultrasound and/or a CT scan can help determine the type.
