laporotamy

I have to have another laporatomy in two weeks to fix the problems I had from my first laproscopic surgey to get rid of a tumor on my cyst.  I had a lot of complications and had to get a laparotomy done to get rid of all the infection.  Because they had perferated my bowel in the first surgery I had to have an ostomy for three months which means you poop in a bag.  They make a hole in your stomach and attach your intestine to the hole.  It is as fun as it sounds.  After that I was in the hospital for three weeks and needed alot of care at home still.  So my question is will I need help when I get home for this one.  I will be in the hospital again for another week or so.  I have my two year old in day care and my five year old is in school.  So it would just be me.  My mom will get the kids off to school she just needs to know if she needs to take some time off to help me through out the day.  If anyone has info let me know.

I'm sure there is a risk with anything but no one mentioned that to me and I had no problems with the reversal.  My mother had a temporary one due to surgery too and no problems afterwards.  I sent you more info in my PM.

When you had the ostomy removed.  Is there a risk that it will not take.  I so do not want to do an ostomy again.  Even after three months I have not mastered this at all.

Hi there.  I'm so sorry you've had such an awful time.  I've had an ostomy before.  You will definitely need help.  You will not be able to do any lifting or housework for the first while.  Sharon's idea is very good.  Get whatever help you can and make sure you allow yourself the time to heal.  Feel free to PM me with any questions.  I've had a lot of intestinal related surgeries plus the laparotomy for cysts.

You should definitely get some help in order with the kids in case you do need it
as a young mom you will probaby try to overextend yourself and prove yourself

When your admitted ask to have a social worker see you before your discharge. They can help set up home care by contacting the state or the VNS (Visiting Nurse Services). I don't know if it differs from state to state, but the VNS will come see you when you get home and do an intake, and they can set up some home health care for you as well as have a nurse come a few times a week to check on wound care ect. ( Incisions are considered wound care ). You might want to try calling your hospital before your admitted to make sure they have a social worker, and then also find out if there is a VNS available in your area. That's all I have, maybe someone else knows something else. I used VNS just after my surgery 2 weeks ago and they've been very helpful, but I live in N.Y. and so it may be a different set up here.
Good luck with your surgery and I hope you have a positive outcome and quick recovery this time.
