My daughter went for her 2 yr. check up. The doctor was doing a routineRoutine sputum culture checkup--when out of the blue, she says, "your daughter has an abnormal heart beat." They immediately hooked her up to an EKGAtrioventricular block, ekg tracing Ecg Exercise stress test and it showed the abnormal heart beat. Afterward (the same day ) my husband and I had to take her for a chest ex-ray.Within a few weeks, (a lifetime of waiting for my husband and me), We went to see the Pediatric Cardiologist-after looking at her EKGAtrioventricular block, ekg tracing Ecg Exercise stress test and Ex-ray he tells us that she a PVC'S and her heart is just slightly bigger than normalNormal saline flush (nothing to really worry about--He says!??) Right!! Anyway, he wanted her to wear a HolterHolter monitor (24h) monitor for 24 hours--the 1st time the monitor stop working after 3 hour, therefore, we had to make her wear it another 24 hours. I was so nervous about her condition that I went to the hospital and requested a copy of the HolterHolter monitor (24h) Monitor reading with the hospital doctors reading. My daughter is having 32,148 PVC'S in a 24 hour period-with something called Bigeminal runs. She averages 20 to 48 PVC's per MINUTE!! My question is what should be done--if anything in a 2yr old child? What kind of damage is this doing to her heart at such an early age? Should we be restricting her play (my husband was flipping her upside down--and I was like, "Hey--wait...don't do that", of course my daughter was laughing so hard that she couldn't catch her breath--but those things are scary to me.
The heart rhythm forum got someone has too much pvcs. End up she has a heart failure. I think your daughter's cardio will do something for her. Especially her heart has a slightly enlarged already.
I don't know the laughing would affect her or not. It definately will affect me. It set off my palpitations very often.
Please post again and let us know how is her follow up with the Pediatric Cardiologist?
Have they done an echo to get a better look at her heart? Is she having symptoms like shortness of breath, fatigue, cyanosis? I went through a recent evaluation for PVCs and was having a similar number. Docs didn't seem too concerned in my case.
Bigeminal runs are when the PVC (or PAC) occur every other beat.
She wore the Holter on 10/3/08 and I got the results from the hospitol on 10/14/08. We haven't heard from the doctors office yet. I've put in a call to see when the Cardiologist can see us again. In the meantime, you just try not to worry and court every second a blessing.
I hope all goes well and I know it is easier said then done not to worry. I think we all can say that. Even if the doctors say she is fine you still worry.
I hope you are letting dad and yourself continue doing what you have been with her, having fun. I kept Chris in a bubble for a few years (he would end up in the hospital when he would get a cold that is why) he is still having some cardiac issues and I would love to be able to just stop him from doing what a normal 4 1/2 year old does for fear it might cause this or that, but I can't and it is hard to sit there and wonder am i hurting him by letting him do this, but I just grin and bear it. When he is at school I am constantly worried but I have to let him do what he needs to do.
good luck and I hope you get answers soon
