We saw our cardiologist on Friday and he recommended our daughter have testing to see if something else is going on: our daughter is not only failing to gain weight, but length. We also noticed that the whites of her eyes are turning blueish.
So I'm wondering, with the VSD, ASD, failure to gain weight & length (at 12 weeks she's only gained 1.25" since birth), and now the eyes... could there be something else going on??? And if so, what?
Failure to thrive with a sizable VSD is usually secondary to congestive heart failure (CHF). Based on your previous posts, it has sounded like your daughter had enough symptoms to suggest CHF. However, there are numerous other reasons not related to the heart that can cause failure to thrive, which are beyond the scope of this pediatric heart forum. The blue sclerae (the white parts of the eyes) can be seen in certain connective tissue disorders which, again, are beyond the scope of this pediatric heart forum. Without evaluating her further, I cannot discern what the reason of her growth issues are, though.
