Hi!
OH! YES! They do hurt your back. You need to carry only that much weight as allowed for your age, height and body structure. Also using bags with narrow shoulder straps, or those hanging low can cause more back pain. So choose a bag with broad shoulder straps and an abdominal strap or binder which ties the lower half of the bag to your waist. This way the bag does not hang down and the weight of the bag gets evenly distributed. Also, periodically clean your bag to remove things you usually do not use. If the back pain persists, please consult a doctor. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
