300mg Levothyroxine

Hi guys, Well I am back on my meds after my  3 weeks stint without levothyroxine and had my 27mci RAI.. I rang my endo to find out should I  be taking my normal meds 150mg and I am now hearing that he told me that I should double meds to 300mg.. What's with that??
What is going on?  I just hope I survive the next couple of days

I was started out today on 125 mcg of levothyroxine and endo dr. instructed me to start with half a pill for two mornings until I begin the full pill every day and then he claims I should start to feel good in a week.  I am not to have another visit to him or blood work in two months and then he claims we will fool with  the numbers to get it just right.  I suppose it all is relative to what are numbers are to begin with.  300 mcg's sounds like alot to me.  But I am just beginning.

Hanging in there.   You're not at risk for thyroid storm until your TSH hits somewhere way below .1.  Yeah, I'm guessing you are a long way off from that.  Mine hit about 2 months after my RAI because my meds weren't adjusted down after the RAI and 200mcg was just too high without that remaining thyroid cancer to offset it.  :-)

Let us know how your endo visit goes.

off to sleep

take care Justin

My endo only had me double the dose for 5 days.  I hope that they put a limit on how long you need to double yours too.  If not, check.  Don't want to go too far over to the hyper side (trust me, thyroid storm is no fun)

After two days on 300mcg I am feeling surprisingly normal.. I can actually think rather than just going through the motions..

The headaches are starting to disappear, which is great.. Before I was just afraid to get up out of my seat as they would occur..

I am feeling tired though

Justin

Hi Justin,

How are feeling?  I hope you are trying to get back to some kind of stability.

Its a possiblity that you will go back to your normal amount after the scan.

Terri

PS, Im not an expert on the meds, but wanted to check on you.

Yeap I rang the office back again and they said it is definitely 300mcg levothyroxine for the 3 days forthcoming and then I get the scan on Wednesday. Cross fingers it should be ok and I definitely don't want to do this hypo/Lid diet thing again..

I have heard some endo do start their patients after RAI on a very high dose of Synthroid. I am not sure why this may be - but my theory is instead of working up from a hypo state - some may chose to work down from I hyper state. I think no mateer what - now that you had ablation done - no one is certain where your med dosage should be to put you back in normal range.

This is only a guess. To some degree after my ablation - I wish maybe the endo I had would of followed this path. I was hypo for 4 years after RAI and was never regulated. I was used to being very hyper for many years before RAI and when I went hypo - I didn't do very well at all.

Maybe call back the endo's office and get clarification of the dosage again. Sometimes the brain fog may have you misunderstanding the order he is putting in place for you.
