Any tips for surviving LID?

I will be starting the LID in a week and a half to prepare for RAI on April 11.  Any advice or meal ideas from those who have already been through it would be GREATLY appreciated.  I am trying to figure out what I am gonna eat and I guess I really like my cereal and milk in the morning or toast!
Thanks in advance to the great advice I get as usual.

A few things really saved me:

If you eat meat talk to your local butcher about fresh chicken and hamburger that doesn't have any additives.  You'd be surprised how much meat has injected salts and preservatives.  I even had the butcher separate the fresh hamburger into 6oz packages for me.

If you like chocolate try fresh blueberries instead.  You'd be surprised how it kills the chocolate craving and they taste so good!

Have *tons* of apples and raw (unsalted) almonds on hand.  I was munching on these for weeks and they really helped.  I should have bought stock in "Blue Diamond Almonds"  :-)

Call your hospital's nuclear medicine department for their restrictions.  I was surprised that my hospital was more restrictive than the ThyCa diet.  I wasn't allowed to have bananas and any of my vitamins or mineral supplements (most contain iodine, soy, and sea-based products - especially calcium supplements).

Thanks so much you two for responding.  You both gave some great ideas that I hadn't even thought about.  Never thought of buying bread from a health food store...THANKS!
Sounds like it won't be so bad.....as always great info.
Hope you are both doing well getting back on meds.

Take care,

Lee

Prepare in advance.  Buy non-iodine salt(so much better for your food taste).  No seafood or sea salts.  I ate a lot of popcorn for snacks since I made it myself(saucepan with Grapeseed or Olive oil . (no microwave popcorn!!!) and top it off with no-iodine salt.

No snacks from stores that have salt in it because you do not know if it has iodine in it or not.      Oh, no milk or soy either.

Get on Thyca website and get the low Iodine cookbook.

http://www.thyca.org/

Remember it's not a NO iodine but LOW iodine.

Also, you can start it earlier too.  It does not have to be 2 weeks before RAI.  I actually did it for 4-6 weeks.  But all are different.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Scott

Sis thyca website has a great LID cookbook you can down load .I cook with lots of herbs and spices anyway.I made up my own seasoned salt with iodine free morton salt, garlic powder.onion powder and black pepper.Work great on meats and veggies.
Get lots of frozen veggies and I got my chicken and stuff at the health food store since it next best thing to fresh. They dont shoot sodium up in the things.
I also got bread at the health food store.
alot of the recipes in the thyca cookbook can be cook up and frozen so all you have to do is heat it up cause you sure dont feel like cooking in hypohell.I made tons of fruit smoothies and I ate lots of fruit and veggies.Walnuts and unsalted mixed nuts satisfied my urge for crunchy food.that and rice cakes.
Its really not so bad being on LID.Its the hypohell that is unsuffrable.....well it is since I seemed to have survived it.lol
If I can do it I know you can too.
Love Venora
Ps rest as much as you canand just take it easyPamper yourself ok?
