is it heart palpatation caused from low thyroid

I've noticed I've been haveing fluttering in my heart, I don't know if thats heart palpatation, my labs are still low but in range,is this a hypo thing? I've been waking up at around 3:00 and not able to go back to sleep, I had started taking my meds once a day, but now I'm goiing back to 1/2 in am and 1/2 in the afternoon, see if that helps. I'll get that sluggish feeling in my legs, seems to come and go. I was thinking of just upping my meds by taking 1/2 of A 15mg this wouldn't be too much would it? just a thought.

When I started levothyroxin, I was getting tested every 6 weeks to check to see if the meds were keeping me at the level I needed to be at.  I am not sure what taking the meds twice a day would do and would not add extra meds to what you have been prescribed.  Thyroid meds take a while to work, they are not an instantaneous medicine and you need to talk to your doctor about your heart symptoms..I used a Holter monitor for a week before the palps were determined to not be life threatening and once I got on the right level of levo, all palps went away....Your doctor is the best judge of what you should or should not be doing.

Good luck to you

thankyou, I'm on Armour, and I find by cutting it in half and taking each half morning and noon, it seems to last me thru the day and night. I tried just a few days ago to take it just once a day again, but I found as before I'd wake up in the night and couldn't go back to sleep, just had my test, and its still on the lower side of where  I feel it should be, I still have slight hypo symtoms, so I thought maybe thats why I was getting heart palps, I do have an apt with my doctor in July, I quess I'm just anxious about getting my meds where I feel they should be in conjunction with my symptoms, Thanks again debbie

It's good that you've gone back to taking your med twice a day; that will help keep the T3 leveled out.

Yes, heart flutters or palps can be present with hypo.  I had them really bad for a while, as well as the waking up at 2-3:00 in the morning and not being able to go back to sleep.  The waking up in the wee hours was a combination of anxiety and hypo

Refresh my memory, please -- how long have you been on your current med? I could look back on one of your other threads, but I'm too lazy....lol

My experience with heart palps while in the low end of the free T ranges was similar to Barbs.

The Dr thought heart palps were only from hypErness, not hypo. So he ordered a complete heart go-over, video and all, which showed no problems.

When I raised my med ( Erfa dessicated), the heart palps went away. In my case it was that simple. If they come back, its time to up thy med again, its a pattern.

I will say the heart go-over was reassuring, even though I shelled out $500 (that was with ins).

I've been on 45mgArmour for almost 8 weeks I believe. I had my test on the 31st of May, since I've switched back splitting my meds, I didn't wake up last night, and the palps are less now it seems. Glad to hear palpatation are a hypo thing.

thats what I was hoping to hear, my heart doesn't race, it feels more like it beats slow and then feels like it stops for a second, weird feeling, I do feel I'm low on meds, not to low, but low. How do you like Erfa? been  on it long? are you from Canada? sorry for the questions, just curious, I'm on Armour, but I hear Erfa has way less binders and fillers and color. well thanks for the info deb

I, like Moose, was sent for a complete heart work up, to make sure there really was nothing wrong.  Mine, with insurance, wasn't quite as expensive as Moose's but, was very reassuring.  You might want to look into getting it done.

While I had some racing, and ended up on beta blocker, from what you're describing, the "flutter" is pretty much what I had .  It's very hard to explain, but almost feels like a "tickle" in the chest, similar to "butterflies in the tummy" when you get nervous, but this is in the chest.

Candy, if you and your daughter are having it on synthroid, you may need adjustments to your medications.

Thanks Barb, I'll check into that, it is a very wierd feeling, it almost feels like when my stomach  growels, or butterflys, your right, well thankyou again, I tell you I feel much better talking with all of you, someone who can relate, rather then my doctor, who I know can't. I remember when I was having problems before, when she had me on too high of meds, and i asked if she had anyone else with these problems, she thought a second and said no not really. which I can't believe. I am just so happy to have found this site. thanks again deb

Erfa works the best for me (compared to Armour and NT brands), some like it, some dont.

If Acella NP didnt have supply issues I'd try it.

I'm not in Canada. Takes one week to get it from Winnepeg Canada to  Minnesota, as it sits in customs shipments a while. I pay all of it, only about $60 for three months, with shipping.
