Decided to try and seek a doctor a little more easy to work with and think I got one harder to work with!

I was hoping to get something more to explain the fatigue I have constant every day not sure it is thyroid because my levels last time were pretty good.  But I once again left with the you just need to exercise...  K people I weigh 143 pounds and am 5ft 2 I am not huge at least not yet and if it were not for my c-section tummy I would think I look fairly good.  I seriously feel like I am treated like I weigh 300 pounds and am lazy as can be and I am soooo sick of it!

He tried and tried to refuse me a freet3 and Free t4!  I had to keep insisting I wanted them done we will see if they are actually on it when it comes back.  He says you only need TSH, me no tsh is a pituatory hormone does not tell you how the thyroid is functioning.

Oh ya and told me that there is clinical proof that armour affects people no differently then synthetics!

This is so disapointing but I did ask the nurse when she came in to draw my blood if there is a doctor she would suggest and told me to see a different one there but he is booked until middle of febuary but if it is worth the wait its ok.  I told her I am so sick of being told I am depressed and fat and sounded as though it was not the first time she had heard that.  I am depressed after I leave the doctors that for sure I almost leave in tears because I am being ignored and could have some serious deadly problem but the doctors just think I am lazy and fat... I know deadly is probably an exageration but you get what I mean.

Anyways thanks for listening to my rant

I guess i was assuming you were on T4 only, and were maybe thinking about Armour. You don't say how long you have been on Armour? I hope you are aware of the reformulation of it this spring and it doesn't work as well now for many. NT is not to popular yet, small company. In many parts of the country distributors have never carried it. Find a smaller pharma (forget big box stores) and ask them if they will order it directly providing you get a script. If they say they cant, there just to lazy for your business. nature-throid.com  It was on back order from Armour people switching, they are supposedly shipping this week.

Another thing I tried to ask him about is the malabsorption but he said that since my levels show that the medication is being used thats not an issue what can you tell me about this?  I take 3 grains of armour now and still have alot of hypo symptoms seems awful high to still feel bad wondering if I should go to 4 grains.

Oh ya dumbo also would not test my hormones such as progesterone to see where they are at said he would let the ob handle that well wouldn't be better to get the big picture??

Where do you all find Nature Throid?  I can't find it anywhere not even compounding pharmacies.

The doctor issue is a problem I have crappy insurance so I don't have many options.  But atleast with my stubborn ob I have a pharmacist he will work with and she is awsome she can convince him to do what I need it's just a pain.  I just wish I could get a doctor that would let me be proactive in my own health.

Thanks for the responses :)

Some doctors are stuborn. If they only have 20 patients and they positivly respond with T4 med in the 'golden' tsh range, they think that works for everyone. Other hand -If you ask them how T3 is made in the body and they dont remember, well, time to get a new doctor.

This is why TSH only testing is not enough. Some people on synthetic T4 within tsh range can feel terrible until more med is given to 'up' the free T3, witch can make the TSH look hyper, but they feel great. If that still doesn't work, then add synthetic T3 to the mix. Still no luck? THEN try dessicated. If still no,luck, maybe other issues going on.

"told me that there is clinical proof that armour affects people no differently then synthetics!" - Yea right, I would like to know who gathered the information, many of these sound very biased in opinion. The proof is in many people that feel their symptoms relieved from dessicated. Many here are proof, I am proof. Note: the reformulated Amour does not work as well for some like the original. Many in the US switched to Nature Throid.

"just need to exercise..."  Don't feel bad about the 'need exercise' speech from doctors when complaining about continuing symptoms.  My old doc gave me the same speech years ago. At the time, he must have forgotten I was a sponsored athlete competing at the top level with national results. He was an idiot to say the least! The Adrenalin rush is what kept me going. But if I was not moving, I was lethargic at times. He thought I needed to exercise? Needless to say, he is history.

Do not settle for less with doctors. I wish you luck in your search.

Good for you for insisting on FT34 and FT4.   Your nest battle will be when your FT3 and FT4 results come back within the "normal" range, but in the lower part of the range.  Then you will have a choice to make, because you can be sure that your doctor will pronounce you as okay, needing nothing further from him.  At that point you can tell him all about the fact that the ranges for FT3 and FT4 have never been revised to purge suspect hypo patinets' data, like was done for TSH over 6 years ago, and that test results in the low end of the ranges are a further indication (along with symptoms ) that you are hypo.  You might also tell him that ther have been studies that show almost no correlation between TSH and hypo symptoms, and that the very best correlation to hypo symptoms is with the biologically active thyroid hormone FT3.

At that point you can go further and tell him you want to be treated for symptoms, by testing and adjusting FT3 and FT4, with whatever meds are required to alleviate symptoms, without being constrained by resultant TSH.  Based on what you have said about this doctor I expect that at that point he will refuse and you can then move on and find a good thyroid doctor that will treat you in this manner.

Hello and it sure sounds like your New Year is off to a rather unamusing start.  Keep at it until you find a Doctor to listen to you and not their academic know all arrogant ideals.  Until then try the Amino Acid L-Carnitine 500 MG ....Body Builders and some trying to drop a few pounds take it. I began taking it when I discovered that ALL Thyroid patients seem to rid their bodies of it at a faster pace than the normal population. It will give you the boost you need until you are able to find a Doctor to Hear you. Just keep trying until you do. Good Luck
