Feeling really bad and very alone

I posted for the first time earlier this week. Since then, I have spiraled downward so quickly. I have spent the entire week feeling terrible. My body aches, my eyes are dry, I am sweating and chilling at the same time. I have talked to my doctor and have been shoved off again. I have appointment on Monday to see my Endo and his nurse just called to inquire I wasnt taking my meds. I am taking them at the dose I can tolerate and explained....again.I want to be prepared and armed so to speak. I cannot afford to be jerked around anymore. I do not feel well and I want help. I can't take this Merry Go Round. I hate the effect this has on my family and I am desperate to get to the bottom of this. Why won't they listen? I do not know why I can't tolerate a higher level of this medicine and why I have so many drug sensitivities. I am the patient, not the doctor. I just want to feel better. Please talk to me. I have to admit I do feel desparate

Very interesting info that Stella has researched for you .. definitely talk to your Dr about it and see if this is causing the absorption problems ...... it certainly sounds like it has something to do with it because 25mcgs is a very low dose .. very low ... and the TSH will continue to climb most likely on a dose like that .. you must find an answer and do get another opion or 3rd opinion with someone willing to piece the puzzle together.

I have good news for you!!

The connection between the Synthroid not getting your thyroid under control lyes within your Estradiol.and your other med. !! I don't make this a habit most of the time - but I am going to copy and paste the drug effects here. You may look up the entire article at www.drug.com ----
_______________________________________________________________________

More common side effects may include:
Anxiety, back pain, breakthrough bleeding, breast tenderness, constipation, depression, flu-like symptoms, headache, high blood pressure, hot flushes, insomnia, indigestion, nausea, neck pain, sinus problems, skin redness and irritation at the site of the patch, upper respiratory tract infection, weight increase.

_________________________________________________________________________

Special warnings about Estradiol
Some experts suspect that high doses of estrogen, with or without a progestin, may increase the risk of ovarian, breast, and endometrial cancer. The risk may increase with prolonged use.

Hormone therapy occasionally causes a rise in blood pressure. If you have a blood pressure problem, use the patch with caution and have your pressure checked regularly.

If you suffer from liver problems or liver disease you may not be able to use hormone therapy.

If you are on hormone therapy you may need to have your thyroid medication adjusted and your thyroid tested more frequently.

Hormones also tend to cause fluid retention. If you have a condition that could be aggravated by excess fluid, such as asthma, epilepsy, migraine headaches, heart disease, or kidney problems, use the patch with caution.

You are in a vicious cycle with your meds between your thyroid and estrogen. Applecore and I had this discussion many months ago.

Now on to your Rx Gabapentin too right? You are taking that for RLS right??   Well look and see what you doctor gave you and what it really is for: This is also from Drug.com
_________________________________________________________________________

Treating seizures associated with epilepsy. It may also be used for treating nerve pain associated with herpes zoster (shingles) infection (postherpetic neuralgia). It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Gabapentin Capsules is an anticonvulsant. The exact way that it works to prevent seizures and nerve pain is unknown.
_________________________________________________________________________

UNKNOWN?? - WELL THAT CAUGHT MY EYE SO I CHECKED FURTHER.

This is off the www.about.com (seach GAbapentin and thyroid )

Potential side effects:

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention. One rare, but very serious, effect that may occur is the serotonin syndrome. This syndrome (group of symptoms) is more likely to occur shortly after an increase in citalopram dose.

_________________________________________________________________________

THIS IS A SEROTONIN DRUG which means it is more of a mood stabilizer than an actual RLS drug - Your doctor is prescribing this to you not for RLS but for a mood stabilizer - I don't believe your doctor is giving you this to treat RLS.

Hense people with bipolar disorder / fibromyalgia disease are given this sometimes. It is a form of lithium family and THIS IS A BIGGY on the Synthroid absorption too.  See this links below

http://adam.about.com/reports/000066_5.htm
http://chronicfatigue.about.com/b/a/200706.htm

You can NOT quit either of these meds "cold turkey"  but these are the two biggest culprits of messing up your thyroid meds. It is no wonder why you feel like junk!! and have that high TSH !!!

Read up on all this stuff.  Two great resources are www.thyroid.com - www.about.com and completely go through the connection of drugs on www.drugs.com. ALL THE PIECES WILL FIT TOGETHER.

you are SO not alone here. Tonight I came online to ask for some sympathy but ended up looking for answers by reading all your posts here. I'm sorry I saw your last. I cannot see well tonight as my TED is in the HOT PHASE so forgive any typing errors. I just looked up your name to find out more about you. Sweety, you are so young.... you CANNOT give up. Also, you cannot give complete power and control to your doctor or doctors. I'm feeling so terrible tonight and would have preferred to give you some answers.... sorry, I instead have to steer you to the site I steer everyone to.."StopTheThyroidMadness.com. Read ALL YOU CAN, Look up all the subjects you need to have information on. PRINT IT ALL OUT and then calmly read and study it. Make notes/answers of your own to your own personal questions. Look up your symptoms in the stories there from everyone else tool. Once you begin understanding what is going on with you, you will know what to SAY to your doc and what to ASK HIM/HER FOR~ MY PROBLEM is... I understand so MUCH now but WITHOUT A DOCTOR WHO HAS A MODERN OUTLOOK on this thing (THYROID, either hyper or hypo) I'm in the same condition now that I've been in for years. Soooooo, my last point to you is this....    do you have a decent insurance? Can you get a second opinion? Can you afford to send away for a saliva test (NOW ONLY 109 and it will also cover your hormones... I tend to feel you might be overmedicating and causing estrogen dominance (which makes you feel just TERRIBLE), lastly can you afford to find a good NATUROPATH or OSTEOPATH.... NOT A CHIROPORACTER. Not that I find chiros to be useless, but with thyroid, especially HYPO, better an osteopath.
I KNOW thes tests I need now but cannot afford them privately and my doc ... well, I might get more attention talking to one of my cats.
You're going to be okay once you are AWARE of all the ins and outs of this illness. My email is lower case ***** @ msn. com if you care to write me or ask questions. I will help whenever I can.
to eat a lot of fruit and vegies. Very sinverely, Liu

Are you taking vitamens?  I was overdosing on vitamins.  The  holistic doctor who gave them to me recognized my symptoms which I now can't remember, I think they were extreme anxiety which at the time I knew what caused by some drug or something.  Anyway he took me off of the B vitamens.  I am still taking B but this was extra.

I also am very sensitive to the thyroid hormone and can only tolerate 33.5 mg of synthroid which I was just changed to from the generic and I feel so much better.  I tried taking 50 on Sunday only and it brought my tsh down too fast so they stopped it.  I know how it is to be on too much hormone.  With your tsh being so high it seems like you need the higher dose to bring it down but if you can't tolerate it I agree with Cheryl check and see that you are waiting at least 1-2 hours before you take anything else and at least 4 hours before you take vitamins.   Your body evidently isn't absorbing it.
Hang in there - I am the first one to tell you that it takes time to work this out.  I even am getting a new endo - one that will talk to me.

You are never alone when you are on the board ...pls add me to your friend's list and I ck. my messages many times a day even if not "on board" .. ok ? We are here for you no matter what the docs say or don't say .. we listen .. we do not judge .. and we have all been thru something and have a common bond ..

Your TSH is really a high # ..... I wonder, too, if there is some conflict someplace causing your body to not tolerate the Synthroid .....  How could that Doc brush you off ... anybody would be awful feeling with TSH of 74+  YIKES!

You aren't taking the Synthroid with an antacid at all are you? Or, near the time you take any type of antacid?  That could inhibit it being absorbed.  That is my only thought not touched on yet.

All I can suggest is you have the Endo go over what meds you are taking, to see if one of them is conflicting with your Levoxyl.

Ask to try another thyroid hormone replacement drug. Not helpful advice, I know. KelDC said it all. I know how frustrating it is. wish I could help more.

I'm so sorry you are having such a rough time.  I hope your endo appointment goes well for you, and they can get to the bottom of it.  It's their job to find a medicine that works for you, and they need to listen to you. Easier said than done, I know.
You've come to a great place for support.
Good luck to you.

My TSH is 74.13 and the current dose of Levoxyl is.025Mg. My dose has been jumped around. they have increase it to .05 but I cannot seem to tolerate it. I have taken generic and name brand Syntroid. The dose I was on for almost two years without any trouble was 112 and in the Fall , I had an infection ans was prescribed and antibiotic and all these troubles began after that. I asked my doctor if there was connection and was told there was no possibility of one having anything to do with another. I also take several medications for other issues. Estradoil for menopause syptoms. Gabapentin for RLS ( it doesnt really help but I cant tolerate Mirapex and Requip)  generic darvocet for pain related to all my issues, xanax for the anixiety I seemed to have developed and Ambien CR to help with sleep which sometimes helps but not always
