Insomnia tricks?

I have antibodies for both Graves and Hashimotos.  I have been fine on my meds, but have had bouts of insomnia lately, which concern me that maybe my levels have changed since my bloodwork in November.
Does anyone know of any safe remedies for insomnia?  I've tried Benedryl when desperate, but that doesn't even work.

On many melatonin forms of packaging, labeling ect, it even lists concerns for individuals with auto-immune or endoctrine disorders, advising not to use it.

melatonin is not recommended for people with autoimmune diseases.  It stimulates the attack on your thyroid.

What worked for me at times:

-For a short time diphenhydramine works for most, and might get you out of the 'vicious insomnia circle'.

-Magnessium before bed

-Hyland brand 'Calms Forte' all natural homeopathic sleep aid. WallMart even has it.

-A swig of pure lemon juice - (for real!)

I've used melatonin or Valerium root for sleep aids sometimes.

My holistic doctor recommended the following when I was having trouble sleeping and staying asleep: melatonin, Metagenics Somnolin, and Integrative Therapeutics Revitalizing Sleep Formula, all which are safe and worked okay. You can google them.

That said, the best solution for me is taking 400 mg of Magnesium Citrate about an hour before bed.  Getting a good nights sleep is critical, and magnesium has many other great benefits too, and it's cheap. I've been told the dose could safely be doubled before bed if needed.
