Just got out of Hospital, Very Thyrotoxic!!! Does the Thyroid saga ever end??!

Hi all!

  hope everyone is ok :)

Urghhhhhhh! Went to my doc the other day cos was feeling really, really sick, had palpitations and a resting heart rate of 153!!!! and was trembling, and he sent me into hospital!!!! had to stay in over night which i was not impressed with as i used to work there, and know most of the staff! It was horrible, they put me on a cardiac monitor which alarmed every time my heart rate went over 120 which was continually! urghhh, they gave me beta blockers which bought it down a bit and stopped me shaking! and feeling better now (although still feeling sick).

Saw my oncologist the next day and she stopped my thyroxine completely for a week and then going back on 150mcg and staying on the beta blockers, my TSH was 0.01 on last count so she thought it wouldn't hurt to decrease the thyroxine slightly.

oh dear.... so the moral is if your having symptoms on TSH suppression, just to be on the safe side get it checked out (they can always prescribe beta blockers - makes it all better :).... i ignored the symptoms for a while... ooopps!!

All fine now though :) well getting there anyway - feeling a little fragile :) and got a date for RAI round 2 on the 2nd Feb!!

Hope everyone ok!

Loads of love Helen  (with a resting pulse rate of 82! -much better :)

Hi all and thankyou so much :)

Have done nothing but sleep the last few days since starting the beta blockers and coming off the T4, think i'm making up for the sleep i lost before:) am feeling better now :)

Rodeo - i had been having a fast resting pulse rate for a while and having palpitations, and my hands were always shaky, if i picked up a cup of tea i would spill it! :) i think thats the main reason the doc sent me to the hospital cos i was shaking so much,i probably should have gone to see him a couple of weeks ago  :)

Will get lots off rest, the doctor who sent me to hospital is one of the doctors i work with! (how embarrasing) so he has signed me off work for 2 weeks, so lots of taking it easy :)

  Thanx all!

  Loads of love x x x x

You are a fast girl aren't you! That can't have been much fun for you! I remember when I had a similar incident a few years back and had to get the MICA (Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance) out to me.. my resting heart rate was 133 ! I said to the ambo driver..."Wheeeeeee! I feel like I am floating in the air!" He replied, "Oh, so I shouldn't give you any of the drugs then? You're enjoying yourself too much!"
It was pretty scary and of course, at the hospital nobody knew what was wrong. This is way back in the days BEFORE I had any diagnosis yet kept telling them I was sick!
I hope you feel better and can relax a bit more now.
Cheers!

Oh Hel!

I'm sorry.  I ended up in the ER with the same symptoms 2 months after my large RAI dose - guess the 200mcg of Synthroid was too high then.  Yeah, very close to thyroid storm.  Two months on beta blockers and a lower dose of Synthroid and I was okay.  I hope they get you balanced out soon!  You've been through too much and you've got this great new life you need to enjoy - stay out of the hospital!  :-)

HUGS

Hi

Thanks for posting this, it answers my question that I posted just a couple of mins ago. I have been having the same problem but my heart rate not quite so high. Ive had my meds reduced today from 150mg to 125mg. Fingers crossed.
