Doctors (most) have been brainwashed against Armour by the Synthroid reps. There are fewer potency problems with Armour than Synthroid (check the FDA site); most practicing today do not know that Armour was the first and only medication to treat an underactive thyroid for many, many years. I am taking Armour after approximately 15 years on Synthroid, during which time I suffered debilitating fatigue and major hair loss. After getting my dose adjusted (it took some time, and I have a problem talking my doctor into treating me sufficiently) I feel better than I have felt in years. Before I started on Armour, I could hardly drag my body out of the bed; now I walk 45 minutes on the treadmill daily and actually stay out of bed all day!
Armour is not the only "natural" treatment -- Naturthroid does not contain some of the fillers contained in Armour and some people tolerate it better.
